Neil Cammack (1921-2006)
Neil Cammack, who with his Father, Norman Charles Cammack, Founded N.C. Cammack and Son after the Second World War, died peacefully on 26 April 2006, aged 84. Neil, who never officially retired from the Company, dedicated his life to N.C. Cammack and Son.
Born in Grimsby in 1921, Neil Cammack lived there until the 1930's when the family moved to Essex. As a teenager, he would help his Father in the family business, transporting coal and household furniture using a horse and cart.
During the War, Neil Cammack served in the RAF as an Aircraft Technician in Norfolk. It is said that his lifelong dislike of flying stemmed from having to patch up damaged Sterling Bombers. Instead he preferred to go touring round Europe in his caravan.
Leaving the RAF, Neil Cammack returned to Essex to work with his father in the family business, which by this time had moved into general haulage. One of their clients was Hunt's Foundry in Earl's Colne. The company manufactured agricultural equipment, much of which was exported.
